The truth about Mara Dyer’s dangerous and mysterious abilities continues to unravel in the New York Times bestselling sequel to the thrilling The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past. She can’t. She used to think her problems were all in her head. They aren’t. She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets. She’s wrong. In this gripping sequel to The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the truth evolves and choices prove deadly. What will become of Mara Dyer next?
“You’re stronger than you believe. Don’t let your fear own you. Own yourself.”
This book is just… just… so full of intense emotions and I’m truly a fan now of Hodkin. This book made me stay up so late because I just can’t get enough and every chapter seems to be full of revelations and twists. I want to finish this series so bad, but I’m afraid I’m not yet ready to end my moments with Noah Shaw, and I know I’m beyond ready for the outcome of this one. But whatever, I need to brace myself and yes, I’m slowly picking the third book: The Retribution of Mara Dyer.
“If I were to live a thousand years, I would belong to you for all of them. If we were to live a thousand lives, I would want to make you mine in each one.”
At first, I find the book a little slow. I’m not really a fan of flashbacks. Nevertheless, the flashbacks are creepy. And I end up closing the book at night because I’m afraid that this book will haunt me in my dreams. Also, I found it satisfying to finally see Jamie again, though not in the same circumstance that I’ve imagined. The new characters introduced are revelations as well, and I can’t wait to know more about them into the next book.
“I’ll walk forever with stories inside me that the people I love the most can never hear.”
The characters were described profoundly and I’m in awe on how each of the character’s unique personality turned the story. The story’s really good. Seriously, full of twists and turns! Apart from this, the story is one-hell-of-a-roller-coaster. It’s so good to the point that I missed my breakfast and lunch because I was too busy reading. There are also moments when I have to close the book for a while to absorb the intensity of the parts and it actually happened every after chapter. Which is why I think it took me 3 days to finish it.
“Sometimes, the biggest secrets you can only tell a stranger.”
I totally recommend this book for a YA-genre-reader. It’s so good. SO MUCH. It already hurts. God, I totally used the phrase “It’s so good” too many times in this review but whatever, it’s really good.
